The SKYTHIA is far more than a sailing vessel – she is a wandering artefact of maritime history one of only three replicas worldwide and the only one in Europe. The replica was inspired by the groundbreaking yacht »America«, which won the »Hundred Guinea Cup« at the around the Isle of Wight regatta in the 1851 – a cup donated by Queen Victoria. The »America« triumphed by such a clear lead that the monarch asked in astonishment who had come second, receiving the unforgettable reply: »Your Majesty, there is no second!« Today, the SKYTHIA stands for style and tradition on the waves of the Baltic Sea.
Built in Varna (region of ancient »Little Scythia« on the Black Sea coast), the SKYTHIA, with her two elegantly inclined masts, distinctive sail cut and skilful rigging, guarantees that every cruise on board becomes an extraordinary experience. The captain and owner of the SKYTHIA is Ralf Kirsten (born in 1975). He has always had the sea in his blood: Growing up with a Hiddensee yacht in the Academic Sailing Club in Rostock, he has since sailed on a variety of sailing vessels and raced in numerous regattas. As a Rostock native and Fischkopp (northerner), he knows the Baltic Sea region like the back of his hand. With the SKYTHIA now based in Rostock, his sailor's dream has come true.
The regular crew of the SKYTHIA consists of Ralf Kirsten and Roger Miggel. Roger is an experienced sailor and himself the owner of a wooden schooner.
